Sunday Morning
Another late night last night, so a morning post is in order again! Saturday was an amazing walking tour of Prague. It's difficult to explain the experience of walking this city, and the kind of effect it has on you. As with any European city, the history is long and complicated. Mark Croft describes it in two words as: "beautiful and charming."
I believe we have two take-aways from today... and they're brought to you by John and Judy.
The first is from our visit to the Prague Castle, and more specifically St. Vitus Cathedral. When I asked John what his thoughts were about today, he was struck by the perseverance that the people who built this cathedral had in order to see it to completion. It took about 400 years to complete this monument to God... can you imagine? It's not a number we easily grasp, when talking about years. Because it took so long to complete, you see evidence of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture... spanning generations. As a family history buff, I try to imagine it in terms of 400 years of my family. I can't begin to trace that in my lineage. But to have 400 years of your people committed to honoring God with this place of worship? What an amazing testament to the perseverance of God's people.

Our second message for you today comes from Judy Brown. Her take on everything we saw yesterday was that the people of God produced these works of incredible beauty as an expression of their love for Him. God blessed them with talents and gifts... and they used them to create monuments to Him that have stood for millenia. We may not know all about the history of the Czech people, or the complex issues that have shaped their culture and history... but what we do know is that from the very beginning of time, people have tried to comprehend God by creating monuments that bring Him to mind.
Today, in our culture, in our church... our physical monuments to God are less grand, less historic... but our expressions of love for Him should be no less visible. God's grace... the joy He brings... the love we have to share... these are the things that we build our lives around. May you see God's love around you today... look for beauty and you'll see the reflection of God.
This morning, we worship with the Czech church, and this afternoon with the English-speaking church. More to come!
