Capital City

We began our day with the dogs running outside. This property has 60 acres of land attached to it, with plenty of open space for Roxy to get up to full speed. We piddled a good part of the morning away... which is just what you do on a weekend,  especially a vacation weekend.

By 11:30ish we were starting to get hungry. We came to the house with no people food, only dog food. So we set out in search of a lunch spot.

As we drove into Albany, we made a little detour down Edgewood Circle... the little enclave of homes where Kef will be living soon. As we came around the circle, we noticed a woman walking toward a mailbox at the house next door. Kef took the opportunity to stop and meet her new neighbors! They are very connected to the community and are a fascinating couple. I think she'll have some opportunities to get to know many people in the community as a benefit of her newfound connection with them.

After a nice visit, we pulled into the driveway at the house and got out to walk around a little bit. It was nice to finally see it in person, and I look forward to when Kef is settled and it feels like home.
Continuing on into the downtown area, we dodged construction to find a little restaurant I'd seen online, but never found it. We drove by the state capital and decided to park and get out to really see it up close. I noted the location of the New York State Archives for when mom and I find things we need to research here.

It was quite warm today, and we walked thankfully into the air conditioning of El Mariachi restaurant around 2pm for a late lunch. I normally don't think of getting Mexican food when I'm outside Texas, but we needed to know if it would do for a Mexican fix when Kef needs one. It was quite good, even though the queso was not as rich and flavorful as we're accustomed to. I usually don't think of chorizo in anything other than breakfast dishes, but it was very good with black beans and rice in my burrito, which was smothered with white sauce.

It was a short trek back to the car, and we headed to Target to pick up rations before driving back to our weekend home in Red Rock, near East Chatham.

We've spent the evening napping, running Roxy, and generally enjoying (mostly) nature. We haven't so much enjoyed the dive bombing of flies and buzzing mosquitos. Now, we're enjoying/enduring the Symphony of Frogs as we sit in the cool evening air coming through the screen doors of the sun room. Lovely.
