Wednesday... Rest and Relaxation

The first item on our list today was: don't set an alarm. Kef didn't have to be on a conference call, so the intent was to sleep as long as we're able. Apparently we're only able to sleep until about 7 a.m. We are, however, adept at wasting time. We managed to get ourselves around enough to go find breakfast by about 8:45 or so.

Trudy had recommended a place called Wildflower Bread Company, which was in a shopping center with several galleries and shops. Kef really enjoyed her three cheese frittata, and my pancakes were super fluffy. We spent an inordinate amount of time at the breakfast table trying to figure out what "guy from YouTube" Tresia's son dressed up as for Halloween. She said she was too old to “get it” – and so Kef and I also wanted to know if we were too old. I was convinced that he was supposed to be Pyrocynical because of his shirt. And it took a fair bit of sleuthing to come to that conclusion. We were feeling "woke" by the time we left breakfast. (Turns out he was just a DJ. That was one of our guesses, but we couldn't figure out which one.)

>We stopped in to an Indian jewelry shop that had some very beautiful pieces, but I wasn't really in the market. Kef picked up a lovely wind chime for her collection, made of drift wood and recycled glass. I think our favorite stop was at Visions Fine Art. Kef was very intrigued with the volcanic ash ceramic pieces, as well as the metamorphic art of Octavio Ocampo. I was completely enthralled with the bronze sculptures of Nano Lopez. You weren't allowed to take pictures in the gallery, but here’s one from Nano’s gallery online.

Kef has felt so unwell that she was really ready to just go lay down for a few minutes. So, we went back to the hotel and both took a mid-morning nap. She really needed more than just a few minutes, and so she slept off and on until about 2 o'clock, while I read a book. A perfectly acceptable way to spend a vacation day. I'm currently reading the latest Jefferson Tayte genealogical mystery by Steve Robinson. They are excellent if you like genealogy research and a good old-fashioned mystery.

I forced Kef to drink some throat coat tea, which I think is fabulous and she thinks is terrible. I don't know whether it helped, but maybe a little bit. At least it got some echinacea into her system, and we set out to "get out of these four walls." We stopped at another shop full of crystals, stones, jewelry and beauty. We didn't buy anything, but it's pretty to look at. Then we drove out to a spot near the Courthouse and Bell rock formations. These were supposed to be easy vistas, and we weren't in a condition to hike very far. We were not disappointed.

Since we had skipped lunch, we were ready for dinner at geriatric time, and Mexican comfort food seemed like a good choice for clearing out clogged sinuses. The first night we were here, we had gone out in search of Cafe José and got distracted by Fiesta Mexicana. So, we went back to Cafe José to finish what we started. I was a little surprised to see that their special was spaghetti, but they also had Mexican food... and we both enjoyed our chimichangas immensely. Have to get it while we can!

Kef has gone through a couple of boxes of Kleenex already, and was in need of another. So we wrapped up our super-exciting evening by going to Safeway to buy Kleenex. They also had a Starbuck's, so we grabbed some drinks and came back to the hotel for the night. It wasn't an action-packed day, but it was still vacation!
